We facilitated a self-mastery workshop with training in soil amendment preparations organized by Core Philippines (Convergence for Organizational Resilience and Empowerment) beneficiaries. Core Philippines, also a partner of Lifebank Foundation Inc., conducts a feeding program in far-flung areas in Maasin, Iloilo where malnourishment is rampant. Besides the feeding program, the organization also helped the community to establish a community garden to grow fresh organic produce as part of the food to be included in their diet.
The workshop was intended to develop a self-mastery framework for the community and to have a deeper understanding of why growing our food is one of the ways we can address the challenges of malnutrition. The participants also learned a deeper understanding of human beings and their relationship with nature and agriculture. On the second day, the participants learned the basics of how plants grow and their relationship to soil. The workshop ended with basic soil amendments preparation of FFJ (Fermented Fruit Juice), FPJ (Fermented Plant Juice), and FSE (Fermented Seed Extract) that they will use as supplements to their now thriving garden.
